The first Mike Groves Run was in 2000 and was a strange distance of about 5.45 k and was organized by his father Alan with the help of numerous WAC members. The course included two sets of steps and the Bure Valley Rail path and finished as it does now on the football field here in Coltishall . The steps had the potential danger of slipping so the course was changed and then extended to 5.85k and then last year in 2011 to 5 miles . The multi terrain course has now been extended to a full 10k to put it in line with our other two 10k races which we have at Frettenham and all three make up our Triple 10k challenge. An unusual feature is that we have always given an award to the best unattached male and female winner, which we now also do for our races at Frettenham. This has always been a charity race where all the proceeds go to the most worthy of causes, the East Anglian Childrens Hospices (EACH) and over the years we have been pleased to donate in excess of £10,000. In the early days many local shops donated and as have some of the marshalls too.

In his life Michael was a talented cyclist and did 'timetrials', he often did 22 or 23 minutes for 10 miles , 55 or 56 minutes for 25 miles and won the gut wrenching hill climb at Sheringham twice. Then at the grand old age of 35 started running and found that he could manage 5 miles in 28 or 29 minutes and a 10k in 34 or 35 minutes he did all distances but only one marathon, the 1997 London in 3.14.57.
